On another point, the only 3 players worth their salt yesterday for me were Rice, Diop and Nasri for his cameo. It was probably the first time Fabianski could be questioned for a goal this season ( their second ) but he still kept us in it after tthat.

Like I say the only 2 players who put in a shift and performance were young lads of 20 and 21. Nasri was the only other one who did ok. He looked a better and certainly more effective player than both Lanzini and Noble on the day and was trying to create things.

Before the game Pellegrini had said Cardiff would be fighting for everything and the first thing we had to do was match them before we could play our game or be a "big team" as he calls it.

The mentality thing is part of the problem but he must also see some real areas of weakness.

2 fullbacks and lack of pace and movement in midfield and up front.

A slow build up playing in front of 2 banks of 4. They simply pressed and were shoving and pushing to stop us playing and it worked a treat. They also worked on stopping the game as much as they could all designed to stop us getting any kind of momentum not that we ever looked like we would.

Slow and lightweight summed us up. Trying to play like City and pull teams one way and another to create gaps is a fine approach but we lack the players of quality to do it in the aforementioned areas.

To cap it all we hear the owners are looking to only invest 25 million this season. We have players to get rid of but to get the quality in the positions listed above and we need will not be covered by 25 million and sales.

Pellegrini's purchase of Sanchez and supposed interest in Gary Medel is a real concern. Yet more slow and old, end of the road players.

The slowness in central midfield and unwillingness to make progress up the pitch was a killer yesterday. Cardiff will not have an easier team to defend against all season. Subs made a big difference but the damage had been done by then. I'd start next game with the team that finished the game yesterday

Exactly well said CanningTown. For this extremely well paud and privileged job it should be a pre requisite!!! The fuckers don’t know they are born! 90 mins pf playing football for stupid anounts of money??! I’d run my arse off starkers every day for that kind of money! Cunts need a reaity check - overpaid useless twats!

Re: ⚽ Cardiff v West Ham - Official Match Thread
I don’t blame Pellegrini at all for this. If those players were the only ones available for whatever reason then the minimum requirement from any of them would be to give 100% and get stuck in from the off. You shouldn’t need a manager to fire you up and they have all played long enough what it’s like in the premier league. All any fan wants are players who care about giving it their all if they cannot do that then get rid and replace with someone who does

If the deal was possible in January we should have paid the money for John Fleck, just the sort of player to complement Declan Rice especially away from home.

Re: ⚽ Cardiff v West Ham - Official Match Thread
As I said on another thread I wonder if Pell is a better manager with top quality players where you can just plonk them in any formation, make a few tweaks and off you go. Put his old City side in a 442, 4411, 4321 whatever they were going to hit the Top 4.

Having said that the players must take responsibility. How you can battle your pants off against a Chelsea or Arsenal but not bother against Cardiff or Brighton is concerning. Have we got enough battlers? Probably not and those we do have are a yard short of pace these days.

Tactically though surely Pell must make us tough to beat away from home. It's all very well playing four at the back at home, and even then we concede goals but playing such a leaky back four away is suicide. Maybe stick five at the back with Ogbonna, Diop and Balbuena as a three. Then you have our lightweight full backs turn into wing backs, stick three in the midfield and one up top. That unfortunately has to be at this moment in time a very disinterested Arnie as Chica, Carroll and Perez as we all know are not solo strikers!

Pea up front on his own away at Cardiff.

Who would ever think that would fucking work?

Cartis 10.53...
It does, we can only pray they eventually sell up to someone with real ambition and nous as they just have it. Pelli is a good manager but even the likes of Guardiola would struggle to achieve much more under their stewardship.

To be honest, Anderson wasn't great but he didn't hide, he actually went looking for the ball and popped up all over the pitch.

It was a strange game, it wasn't as poor as Burnley or Wolves in terms of how they dominated us all round, we had plenty of the ball, it's just that the goals we conceded were so pathetic, Cardiff didn't have to work hard or play well for them. In the previous mentioned games, it wouldn't have mattered if we scored at any point, we'd have still been beaten, yet if we'd have scored in the first hour yesterday we'd have gone on to win comfortably.

There's a clear problem in these types of away games, and it needs sorting. But compared to the last couple of years, at least we've finally sorted out our home form.

Agreed...
Pea...waste of space...
Snodgrass...at least tried...
But expect more from Anderson...he has sjown class before...

Texas, I'd single out Hernandez & Snodgrass for their shit performances long before Anderson.

Repeating myself and what others have said, but:

Pellegrini needs to plan differently for these sorts of games. Arnie and Antonio should have started. Lanzini maybe not.

We needed more POWER out there to combat cloggers like Harry Arter and weren't set up to deliver it. And, bingo, we lost.

WTF was that from Anderson...
Played like DiCanio oop nprth...hopeless...
Is he saving himself for Brazil...???
Cunt... lack of effort...mostly misplaced passes...
Shameful display...but not the only one...
Team played like entitled poofs...
Lightweigh MF and toothless attack by Pellegrini...
And a 3 hour coach ride arriving just before kickoff as reported..
Pub team...
Warnock won the mind games by bigging us up before the game...and we swallowed it...
All wrong and Amateurish...
Typical West Ham...
Plus Ça Change...

Big fan of Pellegrinis appointment , but I am tiring of the same repeated failings in away performances . He has managed in this league before , there is no excuse for not appreciating what approach teams like Cardiff take .
If anything Pelles greatest strength in my view being his desire for attacking football is also his biggest weakness in that he approaches all games the same way . It clearly doesn’t work .
And these continues slow starts both home and away are beyond a joke at this stage .
7th is gone - play some young players for the remaining games - yesterday’s line up like mist was far too old and slow .
Banish Hernández now - a devious cheat .

Hernandez up top on his own in a game like Cardiff away is madness.

I get that Arnautovic is a cunt, but he is fit, on our books and being paid a wage, he should've started yesterday.

Nasri and Arnie should be in every team from the start from now on.

Re: ⚽ Cardiff v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Arnie has been strolling since the China thing but I’d still pick him ahead of Pea.
Might have played Carroll yesterday but MP reckons he has an ankle injury. The big glass poof

Antonio has been rubbish for 18 months and then finally has got fit and near back to his best. So then gets left out. WTF?

"Leaving out the physicality of Arnie and Antonio for this sort of game was brainless."

Agreed, although neither were much good when they came on.
